Verona 1-0 Roma Women: Winning run comes to an end

The Giallorosse dominated proceedings throughout at the Sinergy Stadium - but ultimately fell to defeat after Sara Mella scored directly from a corner minutes into the second half.

In truth the hosts barely had another shot beyond that moment; but they certainly defended diligently, with Verona goalkeeper Francesca Durante proving more than equal to everything she faced over the course of the contest.

Andressa Alves, Lindsey Thomas and Paloma Lazaro were among those to see efforts denied by Durante - and when Annamaria Serturini saw her late half-volley hit the crossbar late on, it became abundantly clear it was going to be one of those days for the visitors.

The result ends a four-game winning streak in Serie A for Betty Bavagnoli's side.

"We knew it wasn't going to be easy - we didn't underestimate the opposition but I felt like we struggled in the final third and paid the price for that," said Bavagnoli.

"The girls aren't happy after this one. If we want to keep on improving then we have to approach games like this with a different perspective."
