Dzeko pulled level with Amedeo Amedei to reach the bronze spot in the club's goalscoring pantheon, with only Francesco Totti and Roberto Pruzzo still out ahead of him.
It was his 111th goal in a Giallorossi shirt - doing it in exactly the same number of games (234) as Amedei needed to reach his record.
After a rampart first-half performance, Roma ran out 5-1 winners against Bologna.
“I am pleased to have written my name a bit further into the history books for Roma," Dzeko said afterwards, "but above all we are all pleased today because we got the win.”
He added: “Today I should have probably got to 113 goals, so from that perspective I’m not that happy.
"But hopefully I’ve just saved one or two for Thursday [against Torino].”
Dzeko's goalscoring display marked his first since returning to action after being forced to quarantine with Covid-19.
"I'm feeling stronger with each day and I feel like I'm almost back to 100%," he said.
"We've forgotten about the game against Napoli, and against Sassuolo we were unlucky - even down to 10 men.
"Today we've won an important game, especially considering it's against a tough side like Bologna."
