AS Roma was delighted to be able to welcome hundreds of very special guests for the club’s first home game of the season on Sunday night against Juventus.

Due to government regulations in Italy, related to the global Covid-19 pandemic, Roma were not able to welcome all of our fans back for the first home game of the 2020-21 season but, with 1,000 people allowed to gather for public events, the club at least had the opportunity to extend invites to a number of notable individuals and groups, as a token of the club’s appreciation for them in various ways.

Those present at the Olimpico on Sunday night included 200 specially invited medical professionals; comprising doctors, nurses and other workers who were on the frontline during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic earlier in the year.

Of those 200, 40 invites were extended to those had previously been featured in the club’s ‘HEROES’ campaign on social media, having been nominated by family members or friends for the work they have been doing over the past few months to save lives and stem the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The club also ensured that a number of senior members from two of the club’s fan club networks, Unione Tifosi Romanisti (UTR) and Associazione Italiana Roma Club (AIRC), were present for the match against Juventus – along with presidents from some of oldest and most membered individuals fan groups tied to either of those two networks.

After delivering care packages and signed shirts to some of our oldest season ticket holders during the height of the lockdown period, the club was especially delighted to be able to invite a number of those supporters to the ground to witness the match.

In addition, the club invited a number of parish priests from around Rome and its suburbs, after they played important roles in assisting the club with a number of other Roma Cares initiatives in recent months.

Sunday’s game against the reigning Serie A champions ended in a 2-2 draw, with Jordan Veretout scoring twice for the Giallorossi.
