Jordan Veretout was the key man for Roma as the Giallorossi drew 2-2 against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.
Veretout scored twice on the night – once from the penalty spot, once to sweep home after a fine counter-attacking move – to give his side the lead on both occasions, although in the end his efforts were cancelled out by a similar brace from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking after the game, the French midfielder acknowledged that there was a certain amount of regret that the side had not managed to see out a game that they were leading even before Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot was sent off.
“We played well but when it is 11 against 10, while leading 2-1, we needed to manage the game better and not give away the ball so easily,” Veretout said.
“Having said that, we played really well against a great Juventus side.
“But when you are 2-1 up and have a man advantage you need to win. We need to improve how we manage games.
“We need to keep the ball better, moving it forward without stopping our pressing either. You can’t give away chances to a side like Juventus.”
Veretout was asked if fatigue had begun to creep in at the end for the home side.
“No, Juventus were tired as well,” he said.
“I think we played really well but we didn’t quite get the three points. From tomorrow we will focus on the next game, against Udinese.”
