With Roma welcoming Swiss side Young Boys to the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday (kick-off: 21:00 CET), we look at some notable numbers prior to the penultimate round of Europa League Group A fixtures.
On a continental roll...
Roma have won three out of four in Group A to secure qualification to the knockout rounds and could win four out of their first five group games in Europe for the first time in the club’s history if they see off Young Boys.
...that keeps rolling, rolling, rolling
Having won their previous two matches since the 0-0 draw with CSKA Sofia on Matchday 2, Roma will make it three Europa League wins on the bounce for the first time since December 2009 should they clinch victory on Thursday.
A clean slate
Despite losing 4-0 to Napoli at the weekend, Roma have kept three successive clean sheets in Europe and if they shut out their Swiss visitors they will force a fourth consecutive blank from European opposition for the first time since 2002.
Home comforts...
Roma have won five of their six home games against teams from Switzerland in UEFA competitions.
...from unforgiving hosts
The Giallorossi are on a 10 game unbeaten run at the Olimpico in all competitions (W7, D3) since their last home defeat - the 2-0 loss to Udinese on Matchday 29 of the 2019-20 Serie A campaign.
Unhappy history
Young Boys, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four against Italian outfits, including the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Paulo Fonseca’s side on the opening week of Group A.
Sharing the spoils
A total of seven different Roma players - Roger Ibanez, Marash Kumbulla, Borja Mayoral (2), Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pedro, Bruno Peres, Jordan Veretout - have accounted for the Giallorossi’s nine Europa League goals so far this term (plus one own-goal), a number only bettered by German club Bayer Leverkusen (8).
Triple threat
If he scores again over the final two matchdays, Mayoral will become only the second non-Italian to score three or more goals in a single Europa League or UEFA Cup group stage campaign for Roma - after Edin Dzeko.
Due a goal
Dzeko - Roma’s all-time Europa League leading scorer with 11 goals - is yet to score in the competition this season, albeit having made just three substitute appearances.
Coach’s corner
Fonseca has only lost two UEL matches out of 13 as Roma coach (W6, D5, L2) and has never tasted defeat on home soil in Europe since entering the Stadio Olimpico dugout in 2019.
