Dzeko: A night to forget

Captain Edin Dzeko faced the media on Sunday night, in the wake of Roma's heavy defeat against Napoli.

The Giallorossi went down to their first on-pitch defeat of the 2020-21 season, as they struggled to ever really get going at the Stadio San Paolo.

The game eventually finished 4-0.

“It was a bad night," Dzeko said.

"It’s hard to explain, we certainly didn’t want to put in a performance like this. We all expect a lot more from ourselves. We weren’t ourselves, we weren’t the side we’ve been in recent weeks.”

He added: “We weren’t the best side around before and we aren’t the worst now. We need to maintain a balance and make sure we work on what we got wrong. We want to forget this game as soon as possible, and we have another match in three days. We have to work hard and do better in that one.”

What’s the reaction in the dressing room?

“This evening no-one is happy, but we have to stay positive – another week starts tomorrow. We know we didn’t perform, although credit has to go to Napoli too for a good display.

"But we have to put this game behind us now, if we start to think negatively it won’t help. We have to stay positive and make sure we learn from this."

How are you doing, physically?

“I’m not 100% but I can only get back to 100% by playing and training. I haven’t played a full game for almost a month, so I still need a little bit of time – but I hope to be back to my best as soon as possible.”
