Young Boys 1-2 Roma: Winning start in Group A

The Giallorossi got their Europa League campaign off to a winning start thanks to two goals in a four-minute second half spell, as Bruno Peres and Marash Kumbulla scored to clinch a come-from-behind victory.

Paulo Fonseca's side went behind early on after Jean-Pierre Nsame converted from the penalty spot, and initially seemed to struggle on the synthetic pitch in Bern.

But, in a second half that saw the likes of Edin Dzeko, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Leonardo Spinazzola all introduced by the coach, it was ultimately the defence that came to the rescue at the other end.

In the 69th minute it was Peres who restored parity, as he latched onto Dzeko's clever ball to steer a first-time shot beyond the onrushing goalkeeper.

Then, almost with the very next attack, it was Kumbulla's turn: the central defender rising at the back post to head home Mkhitaryan's cross for his first goal for the club.

That would prove enough to seal all three points for the visitors - although it also required a brilliant late reaction stop from Pau Lopez to deny substitute Meschak Elia.

The Giallorossi are next in action on Monday, as they visit AC Milan in Serie A.
