Fan Club Spotlight: Roma Club Tunisia

In today's Roma Fan Club Spotlight, we speak to Jaouadi Farouk, co-founder of Roma Club Tunisia...

What can you tell the readers about yourself and your role with Roma Club Tunisia?

Jaouadi Farouk: “I am the co-founder of Roma Club Tunisia, along with being the club’s media and communications manager. I have been a Roma fan since 2000. When I am not watching Roma matches, I am a nurse by profession.”

When was your fan club formed and what was the idea behind setting up Roma Club Tunisia?

Farouk: “My group of friends began watching Roma in 2013. In 2018, we decided to create an official Fan Club to bring together all Roma fans from around Tunisia.”

What does a normal Roma matchday look like for members of Roma Club Tunisia?

Farouk: “We watch every single Roma match together. We prepare for the match on social media by creating event posters, posting photos, and sharing club news. On matchday, we meet, fully equipped with scarves, banners, and everything that you would find at the Stadio Olimpico.”

Have any members of Roma Club Tunisia been over to Rome for a match this season?

Farouk: “Yes, personally I attended the last derby against Lazio. Additionally, our members have attended matches against Juventus in Rome and Basaksehir in Turkey.”

Why should someone join Roma Club Tunisia?

Farouk: “We embody the passion of our brothers and sisters in Rome. We organise events, watch every match together, and even have our own official Fan Club merchandise - including t-shirts, hats, and scarves! Roma Club Tunisia is the perfect place to live out your passion for this amazing club, and to be as close to Rome as possible.”

Can you describe what the football culture looks like in your country, and how that has impacted Roma Club Tunisia?

Farouk: “In Tunisia, football is the No. 1 sport, by far. We have all been fans of football since childhood, and the link between Tunisia and Italy has made our love for the sport even stronger. All Tunisians are fans of Italian football, and the majority of football supporters in Tunisia follow Italian clubs.”

What is your favourite Roma moment since Roma Club Tunisia was formed?

Farouk: “Literally any match that we could watch our hero, Francesco Totti, play. Additionally, I have personally attended several matches at the Stadio Olimpico, so those moments will always be unforgettable. We can also not forget that historic evening against Barcelona, and of course, every match where Roma have defeated Lazio!”

If you could meet anyone connected to Roma - past or present - who would it be and why?

Farouk: “I went to Italy just to watch Francesco Totti. He’s my idol, and more than a player for me. Sometimes, when I’m having a bad day, I think about the brilliance of Francesco Totti, and everything else feels better.”

What does it mean for you to be a member of the Roma family, especially during this difficult time?

Farouk: “To love Roma is not just about the love for a club, and it goes far beyond sport too. It is a true honour to be a member of the Roma family. We are also really proud of the club’s charitable efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. We have always been together, and we will get past this difficult time together as well. FORZA ROMA!”
