Dzeko: Mission accomplished tonight

The striker notched the side's opening goal in their 3-2 win in Turin, with it moving into joint fourth on the club's list of all-time leading goalscorers with 106 to his name.

Chris Smalling and Amadou Diawara (from the penalty spot) then got the other goals as the side picked up a key three points - and extended their current unbeaten run to seven straight games.

“We are improving with each game," Dzeko said afterwards.

"Today it was important to win to make sure we qualified for the Europa League and we have done that, so we are content.”

Did the heat make things difficult tonight?

“Yes, physically we are all in good shape – the whole squad is. Tonight it was incredibly hot but we pushed through that and fought until the end.”

With 106 goals you are now level with Rodolfo Volk for fourth on the club’s goalscoring charts…

“I’m pleased, like any striker would be when they score – but every goal counts for a bit more if it helps the team pick up the three points too. It’s just a shame that the second one was chalked off.”

Now you have one more league game, against Juventus…

“Fifth spot is ours now but on Saturday we have another game before we can starting thinking about Sevilla [in the Europa League]. Nevertheless, clearly our focus is already a little bit on Germany.”
