Film Night: Gonzalo Villar's five movies to watch during the lockdown!

We asked Gonzalo Villar to recommend five of his favourite films for fans to watch during the current quarantine period...

The young Spaniard, a January arrival for the Giallorossi, made his first start for the club in our last game before the current lockdown - but is now passing the time like the rest of us as we wait for football to eventually resume.

“In Spain I would go to the cinema all the time,” Villar said.

“I really like action films, and I’d say my two favourite actors are probably Will Smith and Tom Cruise.”

Here are a few of the films Villar reckons are worth watching during the current lockdown...

    Inglourious Basterds

"Events surrounding the Second World War, and the fight against the Nazis, are something that have always interested me – even when I was at school. In this film, obviously, the topic is explored from a completely different perspective – something Quentin Tarantino has always been a genius at doing.

"The character Brad Pitt plays, a general out to find and assassinate Nazis, is just amazing!”

    I, Robot

“As I said, Will Smith is among my favourite actors. When I was younger I was taken to see this film and it left a big impression on me. It came out in 2004 but it’s still very much relevant today – because it talks about the dangers of machine’s supremacy over man.

"When you then realise that it is based on a book written by Isaac Asimov back in the 1950s… it makes you think even more!”

    The Avengers

“I love all the Marvel films, but if I have to pick one out of all of them then it has to be this one. For those who love the genre the series is already a classic.

"My favourite character? Obviously it has to be Tony Stark, Iron Man, who is played in the series by Robert Downey Jr.”

    Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

“Being a big fan of action films, you can’t really compile a list without including the Mission Impossible series in some way.

"Of all of them, I’ve gone for Ghost Protocol. I think I must have already seen it at least five times. The scene where Tom Cruise climbs up the outside of the skyscraper in Dubai leaves you utterly breathless.”

    The Dark Knight

“I’m a fan of Batman – and this one is undoubtedly my favourite film based on the character. Heath Ledger’s Joker doesn’t really need too much introduction: it’s one of the best performances ever.

"The whole film is just brilliant, from the dialogue to the direction, and it builds up to an amazing finale.”
