Peres credits Fonseca for turnaround in fortunes

Bruno Peres was the star of the show as Roma romped to their biggest win of the season on Wednesday evening, as they ran out 6-1 winners over SPAL.

Peres scored a brace in the game, his first goals since returning to the club in January, in a performance that gave further evidence of his impressive renaissance since getting a second opportunity with the Giallorossi.

Speaking after the game, the Brazilian acknowledged that a change in attitude had helped him to turn a corner in his approach to his career - and gave credit to coach Paulo Fonseca for his guidance over the past few months.

“I’m really pleased with the win,” Peres said.

“We all knew we had to make sure we picked up another important three points. I’m really happy to be able to contribute to the win, along with the rest of the squad. We won comfortably, we didn’t drop even for a minute, we stayed focused.”

How has Fonseca rebuilt your confidence and form?

“When I came back the boss explained to me clearly what I needed to do. To stay at Roma I needed to change my approach, I had to have the right attitude.

"I’m trying to follow all the advice he gives me, that’s been really helpful. I am doing everything he asks me to do, he knows better than me. I am happy to be able to help my teammates with good performances.”

The new system seems to suit you too…

“It helps a lot, it’s a formation that I’ve played in a lot before. Being positioned further forward makes everything a bit easier for us full-backs, you are closer to the forwards and midfielders and further away from your own box.”
