Roma 2-2 Inter: Victory snatched away late on

A late equaliser from Romelu Lukaku denied Roma a fourth straight Serie A victory on Sunday evening, as the Giallorossi were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with Inter MIlan.

In what instead became the fourth successive league draw involving these two sides, Lukaku's calmly taken penalty left a sour taste in the mouth for the Giallorossi - who had come from behind to take a deserved lead at the Stadio Olimpico.

Defender Leonardo Spinazzola cancelled out Stefan De Vrij's opener with a driven strike on the stroke of half-time, before Henrikh Mkhitaryan's emphatic finish just before the hour-mark gave Paulo Fonseca's side the lead.

But Spinazzola fouled Victor Moses in the box late on, granting Lukaku the chance to steal a point for his side.

Despite the conclusion Fonseca will surely have been pleased with the display his side produced, a side unchanged from the midweek win over Hellas Verona.

Despite the early setback - De Vrij heading in from a corner - the Giallorossi dominated the action for large parts of the context, with Amadou Diawara and Jordan Veretout winning and retaining the ball in midfield, as Lorenzo Pellegrini and Mkhitaryan worked nicely to bring Spinazzola and Bruno Peres into the action from the flanks.

Eventually the pressure told, as Roma found goals either side of half-time to move into the lead. And they looked comfortable going into the closing stages, until an unfortunate touch saw Spinazzola inadvertently bring down Moses.

The Giallorossi are back in action on Wednesday night, as they face SPAL - whose relegation was confirmed on Sunday - in Ferrara.
