"Dear Rome, I'm proud of you," wrote Fonseca to his 110,000 followers.

"I knew I was coming to work in a great team and a great city, but living this difficult moment together with you really makes me understand the greatness and dignity with which the Romans and Italians are facing this crisis.

"And the gestures made by my club to support the most fragile and struggling people fill me with so much pride to be part of this project and institution."

As part of our efforts to fight Covid-19, the club has been fundraising on behalf of Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital. The hospital is at the epicentre of the battle in Italy to save the lives of those infected by the disease.

To date fans, players and staff have helped raise over €540,000, with the money helping to purchase clinical dianostic equipment.

Fonseca himself also spearheaded a video encouraging Roma fans, and the wider football community, to take key steps in order to prevent the spread of the virus. These include washing your hands regularly and social distancing.

The club also recently delivered 250 care packages to season ticket holders over the age of 75.
