Ibanez's first interview: I know I'll be happy here

After completing his move on Monday evening, Roger Ibanez sat down with Roma TV for his first official interview as a Roma player.

Read what the Brazilian defender had to say after completing his move from Atalanta.

Welcome to Roma, Roger. How are you feeling after completing your move?

“I’m really pleased to be here. Roma has everything I want in a club – it’s a huge club. I’m certain I’ll be happy here.”

Over the last three years you’ve enjoyed a great rise, one that has taken you from Fluminense to Serie A…

“I’ve worked hard to achieve all of this. They have been the three best years of my life.”

You gained experience at Atalanta – how much did you improve during your year there?

“I gained a lot of experience, yes. They really helped me to improve a lot. In Italy the defensive approach is very important, and so from this point of view this past year has been really useful for me. I think I’ll be able to settle in well playing for Roma.”

What are your characteristics as a player?

“I’m quick and I have good technique, I’m also good in the air. But only on the pitch can I really show my ability. Before I played as a centre-back I was also a central midfielder, and I can still play that role as well.”

Have you already spoken with Paulo Fonseca?

“Yes, I spoke with him and he told me that he likes the qualities I have and how I would fit in at Roma – and that’s why I wanted to come here.”

What is your impression of how this side wants to play?

“I saw it on Sunday, against Lazio. It’s a technically good squad, I really like the way they always look to move the ball. In my opinion that's one of the most important things in football.”

    What are your personal objectives?

“I want to play, but before that I need to work hard in training and get to know my teammates.”
