Roma World: Meet Nick and George Bryant from the United Kingdom

In today's edition of Roma World, we meet Nick and George, Roma super-fans from England who have a special connection with the Giallorossi that now spans two generations...

Name: Nick and George Bryant

Age: 37 and 6

City: Somerset

Country: United Kingdom

Why did you choose Roma?

Nick: "As a child of the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Italian League was the best league in the world. In the early 1990s, Channel Four in the UK secured rights to Serie A, and began broadcasting live matches every Sunday on free-to-air TV. All of my friends had Italian teams, and I chose Roma for a number of reasons: the kit was so spectacular and unique, for one, and they were also a big club - but not the obvious choice (most friends followed AC Milan or Juventus).

"Additionally, I fell in love with Rome on my first visit back in 1993."

George: "I like Roma because they are cool and the best and their kits are nice."

Where did you grow up?

Nick: "Exeter in South West England for Nick, and North Petherton, Somerset for George."

What is your first memory of Roma?

Nick: "My first memories of Roma are when I watched them Channel Four, perhaps in a derby match in which Paul Gascoigne scored a late goal. Unlike AC Milan, Juventus, Inter, or Lazio, Roma games were rarely shown on television.

"George's first real memories of Roma are actually in Portugal. He was lucky enough to go to the last-16 Champions League match in Porto last season, and thanks to the club's social media team, was able to meet the whole squad!"

Who was your first Roma hero and why?

Nick: "Abel Balbo; he always seemed to get goals even when not playing in the strongest of sides. He also played more like an English centre forward, brave and physical, but also with a good touch on the ball."

George: "[Stephan] El Shaarawy, because he was speedy and dribbled fast."

What is your favourite Roma kit of all time?

Nick: "Probably one of the early 1990s shirts, that I associate with being a child, and my first memories of Italian football and Roma. The most beautiful of all is the third shirt in blue from the 1991-92 Cup Winners' Cup, and I'm lucky enough to own it!"

George: "I like the 'flash' kit from this season."

Who is your favourite current Roma player and why?

Nick: "Nicolo Zaniolo. He's brave, is a direct runner, and the sort of player who always gives 100% for the team."

George: "Nicolo Zaniolo, because he is cool and scores good goals."

If you could meet anyone connected to Roma - past or present - who would it be and why?

Nick: "We have both been lucky enough to meet many of the current squad, as well as Totti back in Porto. When I asked George who he would like to meet again he said Nicolo Zaniolo He idolises Nicolo, and has spent most of the lockdown playing football in the garden in his Zaniolo 22 shirt!"

What makes you most proud to be a Roma supporter?

Nick: "The warmth which has been shown to George and me by so many Romanisti, despite us not being from the city, I'm also especially proud of the work the club does for social causes, especially over the last several months."
