Falcao beat out forward Gabriel Batistuta - by less than a 51-49 margin - to win the all-South American showdown, after some frenzied voting from supporters.
Fellow Brazilians Cafu and Aldair lost out in the semi-finals, after a week of voting to narrow down 32 candidates to just one winner.
And that winner is Falcao - the cultured midfielder who made 152 appearances for the club in the 1980s, scoring 27 goals.
In that time Falcao helped the club win the Serie A title in 1983 and reach the European Cup final the following year - while he also lifted two Coppe Italia in his five-year spell in the Italian capital.
Congratulations, Paulo!
