Giugliano: We need to rectify what went wrong at Florentia

Roma Women midfielder Manuela Giugliano knows the side have a few things to address in the wake of the weekend defeat at Florentia – but is confident they will do so prior to this weekend’s clash with Juventus.

The Giallorosse’s four-match winning streak was ended in Tuscany on Sunday, as Betty Bavagnoli’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat that was marked by a somewhat sloppy performance in the first hour.

While Giugliano admits mistakes were made, the Italy international believes Sunday’s visit of league leaders Juventus to Stadio Tre Fontane will see a different performance entirely.

“Against Florentia we got our approach wrong – in terms of how we were prepared we didn’t go out there in the first half with the right focus and determination,” she told Roma TV.

“We talked a lot after the game amongst ourselves – more so than usual, because there were regrets there about dropping three points.

“Of course we will work on those things because I think they are vital for every game, and especially the next one [against Juventus].”

She added: “Everyone knows about Juventus – they are a winning side, they have quality players with tactical and technical qualities of the highest level. We will definitely try to play our way, the way that makes us as strong as possible.

“The fans are an extra weapon for us and they help drive us on every weekend - we thank them for that and we hope that we will continue to have such a passionate fanbase. I’m sure they can really help us this season.”

One of the most eye-catching signings of the summer for Roma, Giugliano says she is already feeling happy and settled in the Italian capital.

“I’m feeling good here, the club is engaged with us and I feel good with my teammates – they all helped me a lot to settle in,” she said.

“We have a strong group and I’m really pleased to be a part of it.”

She added: “The coach asks me to manage the game and to drive the team on, because that’s what I do best – but also to have fun, because by having fun and expressing yourself you can achieve big things.

“Personally my target is always to improve, to play well. For the team, the aims this season are to keep working hard every day, and then if we do that we will see what the results are. In the end we will see exactly what we are capable of achieving.”
