The Spanish midfielder, a January reinforcement from Elche, was named in the starting line-up for the first time by coach Paulo Fonseca - and played all 90 minutes as Roma held on for victory.
"I'm really happy the coach has shown such faith in me," Villar said.
"I've worked hard for moments like this and I'm delighted with the result."
What did the coach ask you to do out there on the pitch?
"He told me to play the way I know how to, because that's what brought me to this club in the first place. It's been a month now where he has been explaining to me in training exactly what he wants - and I tried to do that out on the pitch. I'm pleased with my debut, I think we played well and I'm happy to get the win."
You took a few risks and helped the attacking phase too: did you feel comfortable out there?
"I had to work really hard throughout the game, but that's why we are here. Cagliari are a tough side, with players like Nainggolan, Pellegrini and more. I'm happy we got the win."
Which midfield role do you prefer?
"Obviously I will play wherever the coach wants me. The position where I started the game today is probably the one I prefer, but I can play in all three roles. I want to thank the coach for showing faith in me."
