The draw for the competition was made in Monte Carlo on Friday.
The Giallorossi will play in Group J of the competition, with the German club the most notable threat in a strong, interesting group.
The group will also see Cengiz Under return to face his former club, Basaksehir, in what should prove an enjoyable reunion.
Just as they did in their last appearance in the Europa League, three seasons ago, the Giallorossi will also travel to Austria - this time to face Wolfsberger.
“Everyone can analyse the draw on paper, but the games are played out on grass,” said club vice-president Mauro Baldissoni.
“We need to show that we have the quality required to face the best sides. We know that we are one of the top seeds, and we know we are expected to get through the group – but we still need to play all of the games.
“A squad of professionals like we have here at Roma should be going into every competition with the aim of going as far as possible, thinking about trying to win.”
Head coach Paulo Fonseca added: "We want to get through the group. But it’s a tough group and we will need to perform to our best if we want to reach the knockout stages.”
