Dzeko: Great way to win a game

Edin Dzeko felt Roma’s 2-1 win over Bologna was fully deserved, even if the Giallorossi had to wait until the very last moment to earn it.

Down to 10 men after Gianluca Mancini’s sending off, Dzeko was the late hero – planting his header beyond Lukasz Skorupski to turn a game that looked destined to end a draw into three points to savour.

Speaking after the game, the striker acknowledged that the manner of the victory would be a big confidence boost to the group.

“To win it like that, at the very end, is even better,” Dzeko said.

“Generally it was a tough game for us, as it always is here, against a tough side but I think we deserved the win in the end. We kept on fighting right until the end, we were determined even once we went down to 10 men. We did well not to concede a second, especially because we were a man down, but even before the goal I had another good chance [to score].”

He added: “In the first half we played our game but perhaps we lacked that final pass. It’s always tough to play your way here, but overall I thought we played well. Perhaps there were a bit fresher but I think we are in good shape ourselves and you could see that at the end.

“Down to 10 men we remained focused, compact and we were able to create a counter-attack to score the winning goal.”
