World Cup: Bartoli, Carter and Swaby all make debuts

Roma Women captain Elisa Bartoli was an early substitute as Italy came from behind to secure a thrilling 2-1 win over Australia in their Women's World Cup opener on Sunday.

Bartoli arrived for the second half with the Azzurre 1-0 down after a Sam Kerr strike, but helped her side turn it around as two goals from Barbara Bonansea - the second of them deep into injury time - to secure a famous win.

Club teammates Rosalia Pipitone and Annamaria Serturini were unused substitutes in the game.

Elsewhere on Sunday, both Trudi Carter and Allyson Swaby started for Jamaica as the Reggae Girlz toiled in an eventual 3-0 defeat to Brazil.

The two nations face each other in their next game, on Friday.
