Injury concerns for Bavagnoli as Florentia come to town

Roma Women coach Betty Bavagnoli has admitted she might have to get creative with her team selection on Saturday, as injuries begin to take their toll.

The Giallorosse lost both Manuela Coluccini and Federica Di Criscio to injuries during last weekend’s narrow defeat to league leaders Juventus and, as they look to bounce back from that setback, other players will have to step into the void.

Saturday’s game at Stadio Tre Fontane gets underway at 14:30 local time.

“We know Florentia well, they are a tough side,” Bavagnoli said.

“We are both sides that are enjoying a positive season; we’ve both built something from nothing, albeit perhaps in different ways. Obviously it’s our first season in professional football, but they have had to adjust after coming up from Serie B.

“I’m pleased with how training has been going but it’s not a particularly great moment for us right now in terms of injuries. In the Juventus game we lost Di Criscio and Coluccini, having already lost Claudia Ciccotti [a few days before that], and now Maria Zecca has a knock and Carter is still recovering from her knee injury.

“Clearly that will mean we have to make changes, but that will also allow us to understand how we are still developing. For a few games now we have started to feel the fans behind us more and more – tomorrow I hope to see a lot of fans at Tre Fontane again.”

Bavagnoli’s side currently sit fourth in Serie A.
