Pizarro highlights Roma spell as peak of his career

Former Roma midfielder David Pizarro has underlined the affection he still holds for Roma - saying the club's shirt will always remain his 'second skin'.

Pizarro represented Roma during the peak of his career, from 2006 to 2012, and went on to make over 200 appearances for the Giallorossi.

Having just hung up his boots, the 39-year-old was asked in a recent interview to reflect on a career that took him to the Stadio Olimpico, Udinese, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

“Sooner or later the time comes for everyone, even for me,” Pizarro said, in an interview with La Tercera.

“It’s not that football is leaving me, I left it. I decided some time ago, but so many people asked me to rethink and that made it difficult."

Asked about the best years of his career, he added: “At Roma, with the Champions League, and the Scudetto fight with a team as strong as [Jose] Mourinho’s Inter.

“I was also really happy in Udine, taking the team into the Champions League after 90 years. Today though, my second skin is the Roma shirt.”
