Stat Attack: Facts to know before group stage finale

On Wednesday evening Roma face Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic, bringing a close to this season's Champions League group stage.

The game gets underway at 18:55 local time - with the Giallorossi having already secured their place in the last-16 of the competition as group runners-up.

Here are some stats to know ahead of the game.

    Past meetings

Roma are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Viktoria Plzen - having won two and drawn the other. Across those three games the Giallorossi have scored 10 goals, conceding two.

The only other time these two sides were drawn together was during the 2016-17 Europa League group stage: Roma drew 1-1 away on that occasion (Diego Perotti scoring a penalty), and won 4-2 at home.

    Painful memories for Plzen

Plzen came away having suffered a 5-0 defeat when these two sides met at the Stadio Olimpico earlier in the group stage - their worst defeat in European competition.

    Strong home form

Viktoria Plzen have lost just one of their last eight home games in all European competitions (winning six). That solitary defeat came in their most recent match: a 5-0 reverse at the hands of Real Madrid.

    Clean sheet problems

Plzen have kept a clean sheet just once in their 17 Champions League appearances to date: during a 1-0 away win against BATE Borisov in November 2011.

    Points record?

Roma are already through to the next phase of the competition - but a victory in the Czech Republic would see the side equal a club record for most points in a Champions League group stage (12, 2008-09 season).

    Dze-gol

Edin Dzeko has scored a total of 15 Champions League goals for Roma, leaving him just two behind the club's all-time leading goalscorer in the competition... Francesco Totti.

This season Dzeko has scored five goals in just four appearances - although he will miss the trip to face Plzen.

    Hat-trick hero

Dzeko scored three goals in the 5-0 win over Plzen earlier in the group stage - although injury will mean he does not have the opportunity to match Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano as the only player to score two hat-tricks against the same opponent in a group stage (the Brazilian managed it against BATE Borisov during the 2014-15 campaign).

Roma's record in Czech (and Slovakia)

Prior to this season's group stage, Roma had previously be drawn against Czech, Slovakian or (years back) Czechoslovakian squads on eight occasions. From those 16 encounters came a mixed bag of results: five wins and five defeats, with six draws.

Those games came against: Slavia Prague, Sparta Prague, Spartak Trnava, Kosice, Slovan Bratislava and Viktoria Plzen.

    Plzen against Italian sides

Plzen have now played Italian sides on seven occasions in European competition: winning two, losing three and drawing the other two.

    De Rossi out in front

Daniele De Rossi has played more Champions League matches than any other player in Roma history. The club captain passed Francesco Totti to take the lead in total appearances (58) during the current group stage.

The full top five for Roma: De Rossi (58 games - plus two in qualifiers), Totti (57), Christian Panucci (38), Philippe Mexes (31), Simone Perrotta (31).
