Stat Attack: Facts to know ahead of Plzen visit

Two years after visiting in the Europa League, Viktoria Plzen are back at the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma in Champions League action.

Here's some statistics to be aware of ahead of the game...

    Second go-round...

Roma and Viktoria Plzen will face each other for the first time in the Champions League - their only other meetings came in the Europa League group stage during the 2016-17 campaign.

Four of the best at the Olimpico?

On Plzen's visit to the Olimpico during that group stage, the Giallorossi ran out emphatic 4-1 winners.

    Last five home games...

Roma have won their last five home games in the Champions League - scoring 12 goals and conceding just two. Both of those came in their last Olimpico game, against Liverpool in last season's semi-finals.

    Czech-Italian relations...

Clubs from the Czech Republic have beaten Italian sides just once in the last 10 Champions League meetings between them (five defeats, four draws). That sole victory was for Sparta Prague, who beat Lazio 1-0 in December 2003.

    Back-to-back? Not for Roma...

Roma have not lost successive Champions League games since November 2014: on that occasion they lost back-to-back matches against Bayern Munich.

    Good memories for Edin Dzeko

Edin Dzeko has a fine scoring record against Plzen - managing five goals in four appearances against them in European competition. The Bosnian scored a hat-trick in his last appearance against them, in the 4-1 home win in 2016.

    A stumbling start in Europe...

Only once have Roma lost the first two games in the Champions League group stage. That happened in the 2004-05 season.

    Travel difficulties for Plzen

Viktoria Plzen have lost five of the six away games they have played in during the Champions League; conceding 16 goals in the process. Their one win came against BATE Borisov back in November 2011.

    Tough competition for Czechs...

Not since December 2011 have Plzen - who drew with CSKA Moscow on the opening day this season - managed to secure two positive results in a row in the Champions League.

    A new club for Dzeko

With his appearance against Real Madrid on the opening matchday, Edin Dzeko became just the third player from Bosnia & Herzegovina to reach 50 appearances in the Champions League. Hasan Salihamidzic (88) and Miralem Pjanic (55) are the other two.
