Stephan El Shaarawy credited the fighting spirit of the team as Roma recovered to beat Torino 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Giallorossi took a 2-0 first half lead at the Stadio Olimpico but were pegged back in the second half – only for El Shaarawy, who had replaced Cengiz Under in the opening 10 minutes, to slot home in the closing stages to decided the match.
“These are three really important points, from a really tough game,” El Shaarawy said.
“We did really well in the first half – after the break we dropped off a bit but we were able to regroup and take the lead and clinch the result. It was a great performance, full of heart.”
He added: “I came on cold – starting without a real warm-up was not ideal. Through the hard work of the whole team we were able to take home the points, it wasn’t easy.
"It’s nice [to have scored so many at home already] but we need all our attackers. We hope that Cengiz is back very soon, but today the key thing was to win.”
The result means the Giallorossi have now won their last three in the league, and moved closer to the top four in the Serie A standings.
“Champions League qualification is our objective – we’re pleased and know we need to continue like this,” El Shaarawy added.
“If we play as we can then the results will come.”
