Bavagnoli warns hard-work is just starting for Women

Roma Women coach Betty Bavagnoli has warned her young side that they have still not achieved anything yet, as they prepare to face Tavagnacco on Saturday.

The Giallorosse moved into the top four in Serie A for the first time this season – and so, by extension, for the first time in their history – with an incredible victory over Sassuolo at Stadio Tre Fontane last weekend, a result that Bavagnoli rightfully believes will give the group a lot of confidence.

But she warned that there is still a lot of hard work to go if they are to achieve something tangible this season.

“In terms of morale, clearly we are coming into this game in a good place,” Bavagnoli told Roma TV.

“We have got a few players back, we are confident that we can continue to show how much we are improving.

"We are into the top four but we cannot think we have already made it – because the path is always full of obstacles. Right now we are enjoying the fruits of our hard work in the past few months, but we have still not achieved anything.”

Bavagnoli could have defender Federica Di Criscio available for selection after illness kept her out of the game against Sassuolo, while midfielder Vanessa Bernauer overcame a slight knock in midweek to be available.

Tavagnacco currently sit seventh in Serie A: the two sides having drawn 2-2 earlier in the campaign, when Roma came back from an early 2-0 deficit.

She added: “Tavagnacco don’t need any introduction to us, they are a solid side and have a long tradition in women’s football. They are a side that never give up – as they showed in the last game they played.

“In the first meeting we gave away too many chances, but in the months since we have worked a lot on this – tomorrow I hope that we put in a great performance.”

Bavagnoli knows that Roma’s real ambitions are in the longer term – but she still believes there is much to be achieved in the short-term too.

“Roma’s main aim is to help the group improve and develop – the club’s project is very interesting, especially for the long-term,” she said.

“But right now I want to see us improve also in terms of results, we need to put a real stranglehold on fourth position.”
