Read a bit more about each of the candidates below...

    ELISA BARTOLI

Captain of Roma Women, Bartoli has been ever-present as the Giallorosse have come together - almost from scratch - and improved rapidly over the first half of their first ever season in Serie A. An Italy international, the full-back has dominated in almost every game she has played - chipping in with a number of important goals too.

    BRYAN CRISTANTE

Speaking of important goals... after a slow start to life in the capital, midfielder Bryan Cristante has grown in stature and influence - and authored a dominant December that saw him score goals against Cagliari, Genoa and Parma.

    ROBIN OLSEN

Being asked to replace a goalkeeper like Alisson Becker would be tough for anyone, but Robin Olsen has come in almost seamlessly and made the No. 1 shirt his own. Sterling performances against the likes of Napoli and Parma stick out - the Swedish stopper has not been perfect, but he has been very impressive.

    NICOLO ZANIOLO

A surprise package this season, the 19-year-old has been a revelation since that surprise first start for the club against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. A first Serie A goal came recently against Sassuolo - but between those two moments, the young attacking midfielder has been impressive almost every time he has taken the pitch.
