Explained: Why Roma Women wore yellow against Orobica

Wondering why Roma Women wore the club’s yellow third kit during Saturday’s home victory over Orobica? Wonder no more…

Betty Bavagnoli’s side were hard to miss as they romped to a 3-0 win at Stadio Tre Fontane, thanks to the yellow kit they wore that has been donned by the men’s team on a number of occasions this season.

Federica Di Criscio, Agnese Bonfantini and Annamaria Serturini scored the goals, as the team made it seven points from their last three games in emphatic style.

Officially, the yellow strip is not part of the women’s team kits this season – the league only requires home and away options – but two days prior to Saturday’s game, the club were informed by Orobica that the visitors would only be able to wear their white shirts, red shorts and white socks; a combination that would make it impossible for the Giallorosse to wear either their home kit (colour clash with the shorts) or the away outfit (colour clash with the shirt).

This led to the back-up plan: the third kit, with the socks from the home uniform added to create an all-yellow ensemble.

A combination unlikely to ever be seen again this season, yet one that will now forever be remembered as part of the team’s first-ever home win in Serie A.
