Bavagnoli confident mentality is right as Women look to end losing run

Roma Women’s coach Betty Bavagnoli hopes her side can take another good week of training with them into Saturday’s Serie A meeting with Florentia, as they look to get their first points on the board this season.

The Giallorosse are away this weekend at the Stadio del Buffa in Figline Valdarno, with kick-off at 15:00 local time.

The two sides should be familiar with each other, having faced off in the inaugural Trofeo Luisa Petrucci at Stadio Tre Fontane during pre-season. Roma Women ran out winners on that occasion, but this will be an entirely different test.

“After three games [in the league] where we haven’t taken any points, the hard work becomes even more important,” Bavagnoli said.

“You have to focus more than ever on the mentality, the focus, the determination – which these girls have all demonstrated that they have, and will continued to demonstrate.

“But, nevertheless, it’s a young group, and so it is important to keep a close eye on this. This week we have worked very well, so I hope that we can produce something on Saturday.”

The Giallorosse will welcome back forward Martina Piemonte after she was suspended for last week’s game against Juventus, while midfielder Flaminia Simonetti will be a late selection decision after picking up a slight knock during that defeat.

“As always we are expecting a tough opponent, spirited, determined,” Bavagnoli added.

“We need to start with the right desire and passion, which we’ve shown all week in training, to go out and try and take home the points.”
