Pjanic wants silverware with Roma

Miralem Pjanic has reiterated his desire to win trophies with AS Roma as the Giallorossi prepare for a testing encounter against Barcelona on Tuesday – the team that won the lot last year

Having begun the 2015-16 campaign in fantastic form, notching eight goals in 14 starts so far, the Bosnian now hopes to remain injury-free for the whole season and ultimately claim some silverware come next May.

“I haven't changed the way I play,” the 25-year-old said at a media conference ahead of the Giallorossi's Camp Nou outing. “I'm happy to take responsibility and the team is playing well with lots of self-belief.

“My aim is to provide the team with an extra gear. Hopefully I can have a full season with no injuries and then win something with Roma. I've been waiting for that for ages and I'll do everything in my power to make it happen.”

What sort of game do you expect tomorrow?

“It's going to be an extremely difficult match against the team that were clear favourites to win our group. They don't often lose at home but we showed in the reverse fixture we have enough tricks up our sleeves to cause problems for them. We did that by closing down all the spaces and harrying the man on the ball. It will be a different match tomorrow but we're determined to get a result. We'll go out there and do exactly what the gaffer wants us to do. Chances will come our way and we're going to have to take them when they do.”

The papers say that Barcelona are interested in you. How does that make you feel?

“It's always nice to be linked to big teams but it's just paper talk and I pay little attention to it to be honest. I just get on with my job. As I said, I want to have a great season and win something with Roma. You never know in football. In any case it's always special to play in a stadium like this.”

How does your job change with no Salah or Gervinho in the side?

“We were without them at Bologna and I had to play closer to Dzeko, though partly due to the playing conditions as well. We'll see what the gaffer wants us to do in the coming games. It's true that we're missing some important players and it would always be better to have them with us but we'll come up with a solution. We have strength in depth and we'll find a way to cause problems for our opponents, who are a very hard team to play against. It can be done but we'll have to give it everything we've got tomorrow. As for my own job, I'll do whatever the coach asks me to do.”
