Garcia: We're covered in attack

Garcia: We're covered in attack

Rudi Garcia is confident he has enough firepower in his squad to make up for the absentees in attack going into Saturday's Serie A clash with Bologna

The boss has to contend with limited offensive options at the moment, with Gervinho and Mohamed Salah having recently joined Francesco Totti in the treatment room, but says he is not worried about where the goals will come from.

"We're missing some big players for this match, like Gervinho, Salah and Totti, but I'm confident in the options we have available," Garcia told journalists at a news conference ahead of the game.

"We have Edin Dzeko, Manuel Iturbe, Iago Falque, Ezequiel Ponce and Umar Sadiq up top. And, lest we forget, we're scoring from all over the pitch. That's a positive for Roma and I hope it continues."

Are you looking at any potential tactical tweaks in light of the absentees?

"We didn't only play on the counter with Salah and Gervinho in the side. Iago Falque was playing brilliantly before his injury, for instance, he was one of our key men. Manuel has similar attributes to Mohamed and Gervinho and we can really use him. As I've said, I'm confident."

What do you expect from Bologna?

"The danger with the tragic events in France, the international break and the return of the Champions League in a few days' time, is that we overlook the match at the Dall'Ara. That mustn't be the case. Bologna have a new coach and they're doing well under Donadoni. It will be great to see him again on Saturday. The Rossoblu have a different mindset compared with a few weeks ago, as they're on the back of two straight wins. My players know that they'll have to be entirely focused on this game. We want the three points."

Are you additionally concerned about Destro?

"It will lovely for us to all see Mattia again. He was brilliant here at Roma. Besides being a top player, he's a terrific man. Bologna aren't only about him though, they also have Mounier, Rizzo and Brienza. However, we want to make the best possible start to our run of eight matches."

How have Dzeko and Pjanic responded to missing out on the Euros?

"The two boys are disappointed and it would have been great for us to see them at the Euros. But they seem positive, which is what I like to see. They want to bounce back by achieving success with Roma. I was ready to chat to them but I didn't need to in the end. They were already raring to go again."

Florenzi claimed in a recent interview that this is the best Roma side he's played in and that Napoli are your most credible challengers in the title race. Would you go along with that?

"He gave his opinion and not just on Napoli. The league season has shown there won't be one side that dominates. Let's hope Alessandro is right, that this is the best Roma side he's played in, and perhaps we'll win some silverware too."

You haven't made as many changes since the Sassuolo game. How will you manage the side with a busy period coming up?

"As you know, every stage of the season is different. At the start of the campaign, it was important to give all the lads some playing time because then there comes a time, like now, where you need everyone. We're now into the final stages of 2015 and tiredness will start to creep in from the first four months of the season. But the team looks fit to me. Besides, I'm only thinking about winning tomorrow's game against Bologna."

As a Frenchman watching at the Stade de France, what was your experience of the attacks?

"The same as everyone else's. This is the only time I'll speak on the subject. My first thoughts go to the families of the victims and those wounded. They attacked all the things we love about life: A football match, a concert and a restaurant. Those responsible for the attacks aren't even human beings. Let's hope we find a solution to this blind terrorism."

Digne has said, 'How you can think about football at a time like this?' What would you say to that?

"I'd respond by saying you have to honour your professional commitments. I always tell the players that, once they step through that door, all they must think about is the joy of playing football and doing so as best they can."

Do you believe this is a chance to improve safety in stadia?

"The safety mechanisms in football grounds work, it was effective this week at the Stade de France. Life must go on and the fact that France played England was an excellent response. We must not cancel all forms of entertainment, let's trust the political powers."
