The Giallorossi U19s currently sit top of their group after taking 16 points from a possible 18, but the coach insists there must be no let-up. Speaking to Roma TV ahead of the game, he stressed that winning must be the norm so that the Primavera youngsters can develop the right mindset to one day step up to the Roma first team.
How are the boys coping with a game every three days?
“Very well. They know they're about to come up against a very strong side that has picked up far fewer points than they could have, based on their squad. We're on the lookout to make sure we don't make an already tough game even more complicated for whatever reason.”
Last year Bari finished in second spot but so far they've only got eight points out of six games. Have they deserved more?
“100% yes. They score a lot of goals but they are leaking just as many at the moment and this is the reason for their lowly position in the league. When they strike a balance in the side they'll pose a challenge for everybody. If we can't dominate the match, things will get very difficult for us. Their attacking line-up is extremely strong in particular.”
Roma had to win against Ascoli to hold onto top spot. It's the same situation today…
“Yes, we have to win but that's a nice position to be in. We must build a winning mentality at Primavera level, so we can produce players that have the right attitude for the first team.”
