With the game level at 2-2, Roma were awarded an 80th minute penalty that the Bosnian calmly converted to send the Olimpico into raptures but the midfielder believes the game could have already been over before he stepped up to take his spot-kick.
"We should have already put the game to bed because we had lots of chances on the counter attack - particularly in the first-half - that we should have finished better,” Pjanic claimed after the final whistle. “In the end, we've claimed the three points and they were crucial. We needed to win and we've done so. We're pleased."
How do you rate your chances of qualifying now?
“We're not through but we're ahead of them. We have to keep working towards our goal of making the knockout stages. Today we managed to overtake Bayer Leverkusen and that's good. It's always good for morale to win before the derby and I hope to win again on Sunday."
What happens to you in your approach to matches or the second halves of games?
"We're always leading and then our concentration fades and that's something we need to address. We could even have built a bigger lead in the first period. Either way, what mattered tonight was securing what we wanted, namely three crucial points."
