Florenzi hails unselfish Dzeko after win

Were you expecting to get the win tonight?

“Every match is different and tonight I really think we produced an excellent performance. We all put the hard work in and we deserved the win. It’s a shame we conceded that goal late on. This is a really important three points for our league standing.”

The players really worked their socks off tonight…

“That’s right. We all worked really hard, starting with the three forwards. Edin Džeko was a focal point up front, won loads of headers and helped the rest of the team get up the pitch. Gervinho and Mohamed Salah did some fantastic defensive work and that really helped us out. Those two are incredible on the break and they showed that tonight.”

Roma haven’t been top since November 2013. Can the fans be positive about the season ahead?

“All I can say is that as a team we need to believe in ourselves and take each game as it comes. We need to see every match we play as an important one. We must fight and give our all in every match up until the 90th minute to try and get the three points. Then we’ll take stock at the end of the season.”

What does it mean to you to wear the captain’s armband?

“It’s really special. I hope to honor it whenever I have the chance to wear it.”
