Yermakovich: If they have wolves, we have footballers

Yermakovich

BATE Borisov manager Aleksandr Yermakovich is expecting a tough test when his side face Roma on Wednesday night.

Appearing at his pre-match press conference, Yermakovich lauded the quality of Rudi Garcia’s side, but was quick to add that his own charges were more than ready for the match after a good week’s training in Rome.

“Roma are a very strong side,” began Yermakovich. “It’s going to be a very tough match at the Olimpico, but we’ve been working hard and we will try to approach the contest in the best way possible.”

Rudi Garcia has said that he wants to see his side play like wolves on Wednesday…

“We understand that Garcia has to motivate his side. The Giallorossi have a very competitive, very experienced squad. It’s obviously a decisive match for both teams’ destinies in the Champions League this year. If they have wolves, then we have footballers. It’s going to be tough, as I’ve said, but we will try to make our mark.”

Has it been stressful to have to train for the match here in Rome?

“No, it’s not the first time we’ve been in Rome and anyway we’ve been able to prepare well for the match regardless of the fact that we arrived here early. There’s been no added stress.”

Have you been following Roma’s recent matches?

“We watched the Torino match and saw how Roma let the win get away from them. But it’s worth pointing out that Torino are a very strong, solid side.

Will Aleksandr Hleb be involved?

“He will definitely play – he’s fit.”

The season is over in Belarus. Are you tired?

“Given the importance of this match, there are no excuses for tiredness. Qualification for the knock-out stages of the Champions League is up for grabs. We’re focused on the match.”
