Roma 2-0 Genoa: 11 facts and figures

Roma 2-0 Genoa: 11 facts and figures

Let’s take a closer look at Roma’s 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday as the Giallorossi signed off 2015 with three points…

3

Alessandro Florenzi scored his third goal in as many home matches against Genoa. The first was a spectacular overhead kick in the 2013-14 season, while the second saw Florenzi run the length of the pitch to score in 2014-15. Genoa are obviously something of a good-luck charm for the Roma No. 24.

Roma have kept clean sheets in each of their last four matches in all competitions and have avoided conceding in five of their last ten games. The Giallorossi hadn’t managed a run of four clean sheets since January 2014 (four home wins, two in the Coppa Italia against Sampdoria and Juventus and two in Serie A against Genoa and Livorno). Despite the impressive number of clean sheets, Rudi Garcia’s side have still conceded 13 goals in their last 10 matches.

7

Sunday’s match continued Roma’s good form against Genoa in December. The Giallorossi’s record now stands at seven wins (six of which have been played in Rome), one draw and two defeats – a Coppa Italia loss in the capital in 1962.

8

With the Christmas break now upon us, Miralem Pjanic is Roma’s leading goalscorer so far this season with eight goals. Behind Pjanic are Gervinho (7), Mohamed Salah (6), Edin Dzeko (5), Alessandro Florenzi (4), Daniele De Rossi (3), Iago Falque (2) and Francesco Totti, Vasilis Torosidis, Kostas Manolas, Maicon, Juan Manuel Iturbe, Lucas Digne and Sadiq Umar (1).

10

Roma have won 10 matches from 24 in total this season. Last year, it took Garcia’s side 19 games to reach the 10-win milestone. So far this campaign, Roma have won every match they have been leading at the break (eight from eight). The Giallorossi have won just two of the 10 matches that have stayed level until half-time – both were home matches in the league, against Juventus and Empoli. Finally, Roma have failed to win any of the six matches they have been losing at half-time, drawing two and losing four.

11

Genoa’s travails away in Rome continued on Sunday as they were beaten for the 11th consecutive time at the Stadio Olimpico (10 in Serie A, one in the Coppa Italia). It was also Genoa’s 36th defeat in 49 Serie A matches away at Roma. Considering the sides that Roma have hosted at least 20 times, only Bari have a worse record than Genoa, with 24 defeats from 30 games.

12

Genoa are one of 12 sides that Roma have always beaten in the league under Rudi Garcia. The French coach has a particularly impressive record against Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico, winning three out of three (a stat equalled only by Udinese) with eight goals scored and none conceded. During Garcia’s reign, none of Napoli, Catania, Cesena, Livorno, Chievo, Bologna, Hellas Verona, AC Milan or Cagliari have scored at the Olimpico in Serie A.

14

Roma have had 14 different scorers in all competitions this season for a total of 43 goals. It means over half of the 26 players who have turned out for the club this season since the 1-1 draw at Hellas Verona have scored.

19

Florenzi’s opener against Genoa was his fourth goal of the season and his 19th overall for the club. Florenzi has scored 17 times in the league and one apiece in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia. If picked against Chievo in the first match of 2016, Florenzi will make his 150th appearance for Roma in all competitions.

52

Roma have played 52 competitive matches in the 2015 calendar year for a record of 20 wins, 21 draws and 11 defeats. The Giallorossi have scored 75 goals and conceded 63 in that time. The year was bookended by two wins, the 1-0 defeat of Udinese away and Sunday’s 2-0 home win over Genoa.

360

Sadiq Umar’s first goal for Roma made him the 360th Giallorossi player to score in the top tier of Italian football since 25 September 1927, when Luigi Ziroli scored the first-ever goal in Roma’s 2-0 defeat of Livorno. As things stand, there are 70 players to have scored just one goal for Roma in the league, from Luigi Allemandi to Jonathan Zebina.
