AS Roma launch Women's Week

AS Roma launch Women's Week

From 4 March 2016, through the Roma Cares Foundation, AS Roma will run a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness to combat all forms of discrimination, abuse and violence against women

From 4 March 2016, through the Roma Cares Foundation, AS Roma will run a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness to combat all forms of discrimination, abuse and violence against women. The club will also organise activities offering tangible support towards breast cancer prevention. Above all, Women's Week represents a wonderful opportunity to help develop and support women's football.

'Think Pink, Play Football' is the motto chosen for these seven days of initiatives dedicated to women. To show their support, the AS Roma and FIGC crests will be tinged pink throughout the week, following in the footsteps of NFL franchises and other professional leagues in the United States.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy – the final of which is to be held at the Stadio Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia on 26 May – will be on display at the game between AS Roma and ACF Fiorentina. Before the Serie A TIM match, at 20:45 on Friday 4 March, a group of girls from the AS Roma's U12 girls' team will parade on the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico. Fiorentina star and Champions League ambassador Patrizia Panico will also be attending the event, as will Sporting Locri, the women's five-a-side team that has recently been the subject of intimidation.

Another of the aims of Women’s Week is to raise awareness regarding the importance of prevention. On the morning of Sunday 6 March (from 8:30 to 13:30), Susan G. Komen Italia, through its partnership with Roma Cares, will offer free breast cancer screening tests to mothers and other women accompanying children to AS Roma academy matches at the Centro Sportivo Giulio Onesti. The association can provide up to 40 tests throughout the course of the morning in its Mobile Mammography Unit.

The AS Roma academy, together with CONI, will make its medical room available for specialist examinations and scans.
