Marciniak to take charge of Real Madrid v Roma

Szymon Marciniak has been handed the whistle for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg between Real Madrid and Roma on Tuesday evening at the Bernabeu

It will be the first time the Polish referee has officiated either a Roma or a Real Madrid game, but he has already taken charge of two games in the competition this season: Galatasaray 0-2 Atletico Madrid and Manchester United 1-0 CSKA Moscow.

Marciniak has been an international referee since 2011 and has come across Italian sides six times in European competitions, overseeing three wins, a draw and two defeats for clubs from our shores. He was also in the middle for the Belgium v Italy friendly in November 2015, won 3-1 by the hosts.

Marciniak will be assisted by linesmen Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, additional assistants Pawel Raczkowski and Tomasz Musial, and fourth official Radoslaw Siejka for the game in the Spanish capital.
