10 matchday stats from Roma's 3-1 win over Milan

Stats

Roma finished the campaign in winning fashion on Saturday, as they beat AC Milan 3-1 at the San Siro

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the first half with a slotted finish, before Stephan El Shaarawy found the back of the net to edge his side closer to the three points early in the second half.

Emerson Palmieri then wrapped up the points with just under 10 minutes remaining, with Carlos Bacca’s late finish ultimately nothing more than a consolation for Milan.

Here are 10 statistics from the game:

1. In total there were 30 shots – with Roma edging their hosts with 16 to 14.

2. Despite being the visitors, Luciano Spalletti’s side dominated possession throughout – finishing with an impressive 65% of the ball over the 90 minutes.

3. The contrast in styles between the two sides was further illustrated by other passing statistics – Roma completed nearly twice as many passes as their opponents (689 to 351), yet went for long balls just 9.4% of the time (compared to Milan’s 17.4%).

4. Despite their dominance of the ball, unusually the Giallorossi had just one corner all game. Milan had four.

5. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was called upon to make five saves over the 90 minutes – one less than opposite number Gianluigi Donarumma.

6. Playing against a familiar foe, Stephan El Shaarawy scored an important goal to help clinch the victory. The winger was clinical in front of goal – scoring from the one shot he had in the contest.

7. The game saw full-back Emerson Palmieri score his first goal for the Giallorossi. He found the back of the net just four minutes after replacing El Shaarawy.

8. The game saw four yellow cards brandished – all of them for Milan players (Locatelli, Mexes, Luiz Adriano, Donarumma). Given that, it is perhaps unsurprising the Rossoneri committed more fouls – 13 to 7.

9. Another cameo from Francesco Totti saw the No. 10 make 28 passes, recover the ball four times – and create one clear-cut chance.

10. With three more at the San Siro, Roma finished with 83 goals for the season – the most of any team in Serie A this term.
