Perotti: I wish the season had gone on longer

Perotti

Diego Perotti has admitted he was disappointed that the season had to come to an end at the weekend - as he was enjoying being part of Roma's impressive run of form

The Argentine is looking forward to enjoying a summer break before coming back rested and focused for the new season, although he wishes the past campaign could have gone on a bit longer - with the Giallorossi perhaps able to finish second with a few extra games.

"I would've liked the season to have lasted an extra month," Perotti said during a news conference on Tuesday, called to present Roma's pre-season training camp in Pinzolo in July. "We were playing good football and could have achieved more."

The Argentine nevertheless declared that he was pleased with the team's performances and hopes that next year the team can do even better things with the current crop of players.

"My team-mates and I had a great end to the season and I believe the fans have enjoyed watching us," he said. "For next year, it's important our best players like Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic stay because we can achieve big things all together."

Perotti also stressed the importance of the trust shown in him by Luciano Spalletti from the moment he arrived from Genoa, as well as the bond he struck up with his team-mates: "The fact I had come from another club and went straight into the team gave me confidence.

"I had been at Roma for just a few days at the end of January but nonetheless the coach put me in the starting line-up for Fiorentina and Sassuolo.

"My team-mates showed trust me as well, they didn't get angry when I lost the ball or tried to pull off a piece of skill. They didn't put pressure on me and let me play to my ability. This was very important for me."

Finally, Roma's No.8 emphasised his desire to begin his next adventure with the club as soon as possible, starting in Pinzolo in July: "Unfortunately I have been never to this place but the guys have told me it's beautiful. I can't wait to see it and have pre-season with Roma. It will be a great week."
