AS Roma has today become the first Italian football club to launch an official channel on the Giphy platform.
The new channel, which went live on Friday, is the result of an exclusive partnership between Giphy, the world’s biggest online database of animated GIF files, and AS Roma football club.
The partnership will allow fans to easily browse the biggest collection of Roma GIFs anywhere in the world and freely download and share them across the web, social media and through emails and messaging apps.

“We’re very excited about the launch of our new official Giphy channel,” revealed Paul Rogers, Head of Digital at AS Roma. “Over the last 12 months, we’ve been using GIFs more and more to convey emotions on social media and the reaction from fans has been fantastic. In fact, our biggest tweet of 2015 was actually a funny GIF of Alessandro Florenzi.
“Through the club’s official media channels, we’re committed to bringing our content to as many fans around the world as possible and we think that GIFs have broken down language barriers and become a whole new visual language in themselves. As a football club with supporters not just in Italy, but in practically every country of the world, we can now deliver content and convey the emotions of football in a universal way.”

The launch of the new Giphy channel, with more GIFs than any other club, is the latest development as part of a digital strategy that aims to make AS Roma the most fan-connected club in the world.
In 2015, the club launched 11 new official social media accounts and the world’s first crowd-sourced official club website and earlier this month, Roma became the first club to launch an official presence on Medium, the social publishing platform, to deliver long-form content to fans.
