Three games from the end of the season, Miralem Pjanic has revealed that he is pleased with his performances over the past season for Roma.
The Bosnian midfielder emphasised that it's been a positive year in terms of his technical and psychological development.
"It's been a very good year for me," Pjanic said to the Balkan television channel N1. "Looking at the stats and my performances, I believe I have improved in my play and made progress as a footballer."
Miralem, explain how this year has been for you.
"I began the season well and maintained that standard throughout. Obviously I believe I can improve still further, but at the same time I'm pleased not to have had any serious injuries and to have played the whole season at a decent level. Certain benefits come with age as they say and I'm reaping them year after year. Now I'm able to keep my performances at a top level across the whole campaign."
Let's focus on the squad: How do you think the season has gone?
"We made a great start and had our eyes on winning the Scudetto but unfortunately we fell short. We hope to do it in the future. It's a very difficult thing to win when there's such a strong Juventus side in the mix, although they made a terrible start to the season and we had a good margin on them. Unfortunately we hit a brick wall in terms of results midway through the season and Juventus were thus able storm back to the top of the league with an incredible string of results. Now we'll try to end the year in second spot at least."
Many people in Bosnia draw comparisons between you and Francesco Totti. Are you similar in terms of playing style?
"We're not the same kind of player and also you can't compare anyone to Totti. You'll never see anything like what Totti has done for this club again. His career has been phenomenal. He was born and raised here and has played for the same side for 23 years. It's been an honour for me to be his team-mate for five years. It's fantastic being able to watch him in training every day and see him perform. Obviously I try to learn things from him. Another difference between us is that he's a forward and I'm a midfielder, we don't play in the same position. He's a great friend and a wonderful team-mate."
Two other Bosnians, Edin Dzeko and Ervin Zukanovic, have joined you at Roma this season. How important is this for you?
"I'm happy that they're with me in Italy. Even if we all have our own families and responsibilities, we always try to find time to meet up away from the pitch."
