Roma's Alessandro Florenzi started for Italy against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday evening, as club teammate Stephan El Shaarawy joined him as a late substitute.

The Azzurri lost 1-0 against Martin O'Neill's side, although Antonio Conte's men had already secured top spot in Group E prior to the game - enabling the coach to rest a number of players, including Daniele De Rossi.

Italy will now face Spain in the last-16 on Monday.
