Ervin Zukanovic reckons it was belief in victory and a never-say-die attitude that allowed Roma to get the three points against Napoli on Monday afternoon.
The Bosnian defender, who replaced an injured Kostas Manolas after 21 minutes, stressed that it was not easy to overcome the Azzurri, who were well set up and left few openings in attack – just like the Giallorossi.
"We believed right until the end today and deserved this victory," Zukanovic said after the game. "It was a difficult contest as both teams were careful and didn't risk much.
"We didn't give up at any point and got through in the end thanks to a superb goal."
Are you pleased you managed to contain Napoli's attack?
"Yes. After we took the lead they sent on Manolo Gabbiadini and with two strikers on the pitch we were under pressure. They were trying to get the draw but we did well at the end and came away with the victory."
Is the team feeling a bit tired?
"I believe that every side in the league lacks some of the physical edge from the beginning of the season. It's important for us to prepare well for the remaining three games like we did today in order to end the season on a high note."
Ervin, do you believe you can finish second after today's victory?
"Yes, we do believe. Why shouldn't we after winning this afternoon? We have three big games in front of us, so let's see what happens. It won't be easy but we want to give it a go."
