AS Roma Awards 2015-16: Opposition Player of the Season

Our unveiling of the award winners for the 2015-16 season continues with the opposition player that most impressed Roma fans during the campaign

Roma certainly faced a number of impressive sides during the previous season - the Champions League alone saw the Giallorossi go toe-to-toe with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Given that, there was certainly a wealth of talent to choose from when we asked fans to select the opposition player who most impressed them during 2015-16.

Here is a reminder of the shortlist:

  • Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
  • Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan)
  • Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
  • Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
  • Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
  • Neymar (Barcelona)

And, without further ado, the final results of the voting:

4th: Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan)

Handanovic

The Inter Milan goalkeeper was a difficult man to beat for a number of teams throughout the season, and the Giallorossi were no different - with the Slovenian's heroics in Milan earlier in the season still fresh in the memory, he was similarly resolute in the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico in March.

3rd: Paulo Dybala (Juventus)

Dybala

The Argentine forward made a profound impact during his first season with Juventus, including the winning goal against Roma when the two sides met at the Juventus Stadium in January.

2nd: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Messi

The reigniing Ballon d'Or holder lived up to his reputation as Roma faced Barcelona in the group stages of the Champions League - scoring twice in the group stages against the Giallorossi.

Opponent of the season 2015-16: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

Ronaldo

The Portuguese forward was the narrow choice of the fans, as he proved to be one of the main reasons Real Madrid were able to defeat Roma in the Champions League round-of-16.

Ronaldo scored the all-important opening goal in the tie at the Stadio Olimpico, and his attacking prowess evidently impressed the Giallorossi faithful throughout the two legs of the knockout tie.

Congratulations Cristiano!
