Spalletti: We must fight to the end for second place

Luciano Spalletti has declared that it is Roma’s duty to keep battling for second place until the final minute of the season – or at least until it is no longer mathematically possible

“We have a duty to keep fighting for second place until the very end,” explained Spalletti, speaking at a news conference on the eve of the AC Milan match. “It’s still a mathematical possibility.”

The Giallorossi boss said he was convinced that his players would be giving it their all on Saturday night, just as they have in recent weeks.

“I’m sure our players will do what they have to. It’s been fantastic to work with them. They instantly showed that they wanted to do something different. Given that it’s been them that have driven this run, I’m convinced they’ll keep fighting for as long as it takes.”

Spalletti also stated that only a top-level performance would be enough to beat an AC Milan side with one last shot at Europa League qualification.

“It’ll be a very tough match at San Siro for us if we don’t show our quality on the pitch. AC Milan have had their problems this season but that might trigger a response as they look to restore some pride. The Rossoneri have to finish the season on a high or face being out of Europe next season.”
