Spalletti hails successful training camp after second win

Spalletti

Luciano Spalletti declared himself satisfied with the work done during Roma's training camp in Pinzolo, after the team ended the week with a second friendly victory.

The Giallorossi beat Russian side Terek Grozny 3-2 on Sunday to go with Wednesday's big win against AC Pinzolo, as Diego Perotti, Edin Dzeko and Riccardo Marchizza all got on the scoresheet.

Spalletti thanked the fans for their support throughout the week in Trentino.

It was a good match today against a side that are further ahead in their preparations than Roma…

“Yes, but I’m not interested in looking for excuses. If we need to have a look at something again we will do so, regardless of how our opposition played. It was a good workout for us today and apart from a few lapses in concentration, you could see we were trying to put in a good performance.

"We were a bit short on bodies in midfield for the game so it was great that Kevin [Strootman] played for as long as he did. All in all it was a good showing from us.”

How did you rate Juan Jesus’ performance?

“It was as we expected. He’s eager, he’s strong, he has good reactions and keeps his position well. He knows what his job is but obviously there are a few things to fine tune to make sure he slots in with the rest of the defence.”

Diego Perotti has been playing on the wing more than he did last year…

“In the first half I was tempted to have him play at inside forward, but that’s a bit of a stretch for him because he’d want to cut in all the time. We’ll look at that stuff in the future. He is a winger and he feels at home in that position.”

How has the training camp been overall?

“I’m satisfied – this is a nice place to train. The most important thing has been the love the fans have shown us. We’ve seen what we wanted to see: enthusiasm from the fans and a good week’s work from the team. Everything has gone as we hoped it would.”
