It will be Calvarese's ninth time officiating the Giallorossi. The eight previous encounters have yielded five wins and three defeats for Roma.
The Abruzzo-born referee's first time with Roma was actually at Palermo, on 30 March 2013, although we'll be hoping for a different result this time as the Sicilians won that game 2-0.
Calvarese's most recent appearance at the Olimpico brings back far happier memories: he was the man in charge when Torino visited the capital on 20 April earlier this year – the match where Francesco Totti scored that late double to clinch a dramatic 3-2 victory at the death.
In between those two dates there have been two defeats (Roma 0-2 Atalanta on 29 November 2015 and Roma 0-2 Sampdoria on 16 March 2015) and four wins: 2-0 (Benatia, Gervinho) away to Sampdoria on 25 September 2013, 4-0 (Florenzi, Totti, Maicon, Benatia) at home against Genoa on 12 January 2014, 3-0 (Destro, Ljajic, Totti) at the Olimpico against Chievo on 18 October 2014 and a 2-0 triumph (Salah, El Shaarawy) at Sassuolo on 2 February 2016.
Gianpaolo Calvarese will be assisted by Fabrizio Posado and Ciro Carbone on Sunday night. Valentino Fiorito has been appointed fourth official while Luca Pairetto and Riccardo Pinzani will serve as additional assistants.
