Roma coach Luciano Spalletti hopes the football community will come together behind the Football Cares initiative and support those affected by the recent earthquake in central Italy.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti hopes the football community will come together and support those affected by the recent earthquake in central Italy.

Speaking ahead of his press conference for Sunday's Serie A meeting with Cagliari, the coach began by expressing his sympathy and support for those affected by the tragedy - and stressed the ways fans can help with the relief efforts.

“This is a very sad time for Italy and we would like to remind everyone about the Festa della Famiglia on 3 September, when we play a friendly match against San Lorenzo," Spalletti said. " All proceeds are being donated to charity.

“As well as that, the Football Cares platform has been reactivated and so I’d like to remind all my colleagues in football that we can put items up for auction to help families going through such a difficult time."

Among the first items to be put up for auction include a matchworn Francesco Totti shirt and a pair of Kevin Strootman's signed boots.
